The day he was born

Three years later :)

We were visiting family this year for his birthday, so he was lucky enough to have a party with the Atwood side and with the Bagley side. A few days ago we were at the store and he wanted a toy. I told him no, and he said "Please can I just have one last birthday? Just one more?" He really figured out how to use the system to his advantage :) For about the last six months he's been planning to have a RED party with red candles and red presents and red cake. We had his red party with the Atwoods, and immediately after his party he decided he wanted to have another party but it needed to be blue. So at my parents house on his birthday we had blue cupcakes and blue presents and whatnot. Now he's trying to convince me to let him have a green party. I think I'm about partied out though.

It is so fun to see Josh grow everyday and learn new things. Right now he loves cars and trains. He's learning to write his letters and how to ride his new red bike. He is such a good kid and I'm blessed to be his mother.

Here's a little video I took of Ezra today. It's kind of long but I love how his right eyebrow raises when he plays. He keeps saying cheese because he think's I'm taking a picture :) The camera died at the end, which was probably a good thing, but that's why it cuts out.

Ten reasons why I'm in love with Blake:

1. He continually strives to become better. He is so dedicated to the things that he chooses to do and is constantly trying to improve and be a better person.

2. He is very good at making me feel comfortable with who I am. I felt just as great about myself at nine months pregnant because he always lets me know that he thinks I'm beautiful :)

3. He loves to play the guitar and sing to me. It makes me so happy.

4. He plays hard with the boys. Yesterday I just sat in a chair and watched them roll around and wrestle and it made me so happy to hear the boys giggling and loving their dad.

5. He likes to cook, and he doesn't make me feel bad for not liking to cook :) He's also a REALLY GOOD cook. He loves to experiment with foods which I'm way to nervous to do. It makes for some really good food.

6. He honors the priesthood and is an excellent example to his boys.

7. He's supportive of the things that are important to me.

8. He is so creative. Every year for Valentine's Day he makes me a coupon book fill with all different kinds of coupons that I get to redeem for the entire year.

9. He is such a hard worker and a good provider for his family.

10. He loves me uncoditionally.

I am so grateful to have married such a wonderful man and I am so happy that I get to spend the rest of eternity with him. He is perfect for me and I love him.

Sunday Pie Making!

So Rachel and Ihave decided to start a new tradition for Sundays. We got a William-sonoma pie recipe book as a gift when we got married and a little while ago we were looking at it and decided we wanted to make every pie in the book. To do this we decided to make it a fun tradition to make one every Sunday. So the past few months we have been making a fun pie or tart after church. Here are some that we have already made.

This is the first pie that we made. It is a Blueberry pie. So the day that we decided to do this sunday pie tradition was on a sunday and we couldn't go out to buy any ingredients so we were looking for a recipe that we had stuff for. We didn't think it was possible to make a pie that first sunday but just so happens we had all the ingredients for this blueberry pie. It was loaded with butter and actually tasted better than we thought it would.
This is a Chocolate Silk Pie. It was way too rich and we messed up big time on the white chocolate that went on top so it didn't look as good as the picture.

The next week we did a Raspberry Cream Pie and entered it into our ward pie contest. It was very delicious and looked way good too but sadly we didn't get a picture.
This is a Fresh Mint-Chocolate Truffle Tart. It requires a bunch of fresh mint leave and they cook in whole whipping cream so that the cream takes on the flavor of the mint. Then you add chocolate. It was pretty tasty too and looked good with the powder sugar on top.

This is a Strawberry Tart with Orange Cream. It was super tasty and fun. It has an orange cream cheese under all the strawberries. We were suppose to add cointreau which is some sort of orange flavored liqueur from western france but seeing how we don't drink we used simply orange orange juice. Then you add the strawberries and lastly top with an apricot glaze. We really liked this one.

This plain looking pie is actually a Banana Cream Pie. We should have taken a picture of a single slice of pie but we didn't. The filling is actually a custard and is poured over banana slices.

Our last pie from this last sunday is a Cinnamon Apple Crumb Pie. We made it and took it over to a halloween party at some friends house. It also was pretty tasty.

Over all we have really enjoyed making pies every sunday and plan to keep doing it. Josh really thinks its fun too and he helps make the "Pie Dough" and will sit at the counter and smash his own little ball of dough as he repeats "joshy make pie dough" over and over. We plan on making a pie every week and hope to make a post weekly on our pies too.

Halloween Costumes

Here is costumes that we wore for halloween. The boys went as Thing 1 and Thing 2 from the cat in the hat book, Blake went as an old man and I went as myself. This is the only good picture we got because it rained that night before we got any other pictures so the boys hair got washed out and ran all over their clothes but we still had a good time.

Florida

So last week Blake and I decided we wanted to do something fun as a family. On Friday we decided to head down to the Florida coast since it's only four hours away. After Blake was done with work we loaded up the car and drove down to a State park about twenty minutes from the beach. We decided camping would be best since we are on a tight budget. So we got there around 8:00 at night and set up the tent. We forgot to bring a flashlight, so we decided to just go to bed. The boys woke us up around 6:30 so we got up and grabbed some breakfast. Then we headed to the Okaloosa beach, which is near Destin. We spent all day at the beach on Saturday, and then packed up around 6:30 and drove home! It was a pretty random trip, but it was so fun. We were trying to keep our entire trip under $100 including gas, and we only ended up spending $65 :) We decided we had better take advantage of going to the Florida coast a little more often, especially if we can do it for sixty five bucks.

Josh spent pretty much the entire day "feeding the hungry dolphins." He would grab sand and throw it in the water over and over and over...and over :)

Blake spent most of his time wading around looking for random things to study.

And Ezra and I spent most of our time sitting in the sand watching Blake and Josh. Oh and Ezra also spent a lot of time trying to eat sand.

Blake found Josh a little snail and Josh wanted to hold it.

All in all, it was a really fun trip and we will definitely be doing it again!

Yesterday I came upon this song on another blog, and I really loved it.

It made me realize how quickly time is passing by. I have two sweet little boys who are growing up SO fast. I'm amazed at how quickly they learn things and how quickly they change.

Here's a few pictures of both of them, and a little update on each of them:

Ezra turned one in September! I can't believe that we've lived in Alabama for a year, and I can't believe how quickly this year has gone by. Ezra is walking pretty comfortably now, and loves to follow Josh around. He says mama sometimes, but I still can't tell if it's by accident or on purpose. He tries really hard to say Doggie, but it comes out more like Da-Gun. It's super cute :) He only has five teeth, which if I remember right, I think Josh had almost all of his teeth by the time he turned one. He loves books and he loves to take whatever Josh is playing with. His Grandma Atwood sent the boys a little Coon skin cap, and Ezra LOVES to wear it. He puts it on by himself and walks around, sometimes walking into walls if it's covering his face. He likes to wear other hats too, but that cap is his favorite. He's still pretty snuggly, not too much independence yet. Whenever I pick him up he usually lays his head on my shoulder and pats my back. I love that. He's such a good boy and I am so grateful to have him.

These are his birthday cupcakes. My friend Amy has amazing cake decorating skills and she pretty much made all of these cute little bugs.

Josh has grown up a ton in the past few weeks. I just love him. He loves to help with everything. The other day I was folding laundry for about two hours ( I did a LOT of laundry that day) and he was next to me the entire time rolling a shirt up in a little ball trying to fold it. He also loves to be just like Blake. If Blake's wearing a hat, Josh has to be wearing a hat. If Blake's hat is backwards, so is Josh's. Josh loves pancakes for breakfast, and more often than not, Blake makes them for him. I typically lean towards a bowl of oatmeal for the boys because it's easier, but pancakes are definitely Josh's favorite. He sleeps in a big boy bed and does really well with it. He learned how to count to ten really quickly. A few weeks ago I started making him count to ten in order to get out of time out, and I'm shocked at how quickly he picked up on it :) He loves to watch Robin Hood and Peter Pan. When he knows it is time for a nap or bed he always ask to watch those movies :) He also says he's hungry when it's bedtime, hoping that I'll let him stay up. I love this boy.

Blake always wants me to post on here, and I never do, so I thought I'd give it a try. These pictures are just a few of the things that have gone on in the Atwood household this past week. First off, I finally saved enough to buy the double stroller I wanted! Yay! It is sooooo nice to have and Josh even likes to push Ezra around in it :)

Ezra has recently started sucking his thumb, which I love.

The other day I was getting ready to give Josh a bath. I turned the water on, and then went to lock the front door because Ezra was asleep in the front room. When I got back, this is what I found.

Thanksgiving

This is our first thanksgiving away from family, thus the first time we have ever cooked a thanksgiving dinner. We were way happy about how it turned out. We got an easy make turkey from walmart and that made things really nice and it was so tasty too.

We ended up eating turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, stuffing, sweet potatoes, rolls, pumpkin pie, cherry pie and we washed it all down with the traditional martinelies sparkling apple cider. For being our first time on our own we were very impressed with what we did and we really enjoyed the food even though we didn't have family around.

We invited over a classmate of Blake's to eat with us. His name is Jin-Yang and he is from South Korea. It was his first Thanksgiving, he was also kind enough to bring some cookies and frozen yogurt to share.

Making Egg Nog!

So we decided to have a Family Home Evening where we made egg nog. We waited till Joshua and Ezra were in bed and we made the egg nog as a couple. Part of the recipe called for whipping egg whites till they were stiff. Here we competed to see who could get their egg whites stiff first.

This is a beautiful picture of the finished product in our glasses. Not only did it look delicious but it tasted delicious too. We also added nut meg and pumpkin spice to it.

Here is a good look at the foam. It was nice for looks but kind of a hassle to drink it with.

It was so much fun to make egg nog together. We are way exited because we are going to make it a family holiday tradition.

This here is one of Whistlers favorite games where he wears a blanket over his head and trys to navigate around the house. He has gone from the living room to the back bedroom and back to the living room without looking before. We sit back and just laugh as he walks around, it is so funny.

Trunk or Treat

Even though Josh is only one and has no real concept of Halloween, we decided to dress up and go to the Ward trunk or treat party they were doing. We went and bought a bag of smarties and a bag of dum dums and dressed Josh up as a Tiger and Ezra up as a Lion.

If you notice on the ground we also bought a plastic pumpkin halloween bucket because Josh was so obsessed with them everytime we pass them in a store.

Well Josh was very happy to at least get out of the house. When we started walking around from car to car he was somewhat annoyed that we had to wait in a line and that he couldn't just wander around. When he finally found out that he could obtain something at each car and that by holding out his bucket people would place something in it the game began and he would then run to anyone that was holding a bowl of candy. Once we made the rounds he decided to see what it was that people were putting in his bucket.

He was a little disappointed at first.

Ezra was a happy little lion the whole time.

When we finally opened a sucker for him he realized the worth of the contents of his bucket.

He really liked the idea of a night of getting and giving candy.

Here is a look into the candy bucket. He got a good amount of candy.

On the way home we made the mistake of letting Josh hold his Candy Bucket on his lap. Well just before we got home we looked in the back seat and josh was holding a hersheys chocolate bar. We were quite suprised that he was able to open it but he did by chewing on the end of the wrapper until it was opened and then he sat there and sucked on it trying to get as much chocolate out as he could.

He was pretty happy about his obtaining a bucket of candy and the accomplishment of being able to open and eat the candy himself without mom or dad knowing.

The real sad thing is he is now somewhat of a stinker and knows that there is candy in the house and will through a fit if he does not have free access to it. We had to finally hide the candy on top of the fridge and give him the empty bucket so that he could see there is no more candy. I tell you what, this little boy really like halloween and we had a really fun night out and about as a family.

Trip to the Botanical Gardens

We went to the botanical gardens on Saturday to get out of the house and spend some needed time together and it was such a good experience that we might have established a weekly tradition. Before you get looking at the pictures too much though we have to tell you that Whistlers nose is red because as we get there he takes off running on the pavement and at full sprint he must have been leaning too far forward and he went down and scuffed his nose. It just barely took a bit of skin off but it left his nose red for all the pictures that were to be taken. We did get some good family pictures though and they are really the first that we have taken since Odin has been with us.

This is Whistler taking off on the run right before he biffed it. Funny thing is he didn't really cry nor did it stop him from running aroung the rest of the time.

Joshua was not allowed to be on the 3rd floor where the babies were because of the H1N1 problem that is going around. I didn't listen though because Rachel was alone because no family was here and we don't know too many people here in alabama so I snuck Josher up in the baby carrier when he was asleep. I put a blanket over him and a diaper bag on top so it looked like I was just bringing the carrier to take the baby home in. Once Josh was in we had some fun.

Ezra Odin Atwood

Ezra was born at 3:37 am central time in gadsden, alabama. He was 20 inches long and was 6 pounds 2.7 ounces. We left for the hospital around 6:30 pm on the 21st after she was having hard contractions every 5 to 6 minutes. Once at the hospital she was checked in and I ran Joshua over to Mike Morris' for the night. Joshua was a good boy in that he went right to bed and slept til 8:00 am this morning. I stayed at mikes for a while before heading back to make sure that it was the real deal or not because she is 2 weeks and 3 or 4 days early. At around 9:45 pm she called and told me she was at a 4 and the contractions were very strong. She was crying too because it hurt really bad and she wasn't able to get the epidural until around 10:30 or so. It was pretty high stress until she got the epidural but after that she was fine and became more laid back. At midnight they checked her and she was at a 7. Dr. Cooper had to do a C-section on another lady at that time so we went into waiting mode. Dr. Cooper came back in at around 1:20 am and Rachel was at a 9 so they broke her water and left again. At 2:20 am they came back in and we got ready. They walked around and got things ready and finally we got in position and started pushing. After the first two pushes he was right there about to come. After the third push he thought about staying in until rachel started laughing a little and the laughing pushed him out. I cut the cord and grabbed the camera. I will try to put some pictures on here if I can get it figured out. He was totally covered in what everyone was calling cheese and even took a shot at the nurse with his pee shooter. He was so small too compared to whistler and because he wasn't in the canal for too long he doesn't really have to misshapen of a head like whistler. He does have lots of dark hair like Whistler and because he was so small rachel never ripped at all. She actually didn't bleed hardly at all and is doing excellent. Then they started to clean up rach while she was on the phone to mother bagley (jill) and I went with the camera to the baby room where they cleaned him up and weighed him. Once we were done there rachel got ezra back and she fed him some and he latched right on an is eating very well. We enjoyed our moment together at like 5:00 in the morning and then we moved rooms and took some more pictures and then I went back to Mikes house because I needed to get back before whistler woke up. Right now rachel is just resting at the hospital with Ezra and I am with whistler at mikes. The sad thing is because of the swine flu going around they will not let children under the age of 12 on the 3rd floor where the babies are so I can't take whistler to see his mom until she is out of the hospital so I will remain here at mikes with whistler while rachel remains at the hospital alone with ezra. I don't know how much rest rachel is getting but I got to sleep from 6:30 to 8:00 until whistler woke up.

We also forgot to put this picture on the blog. We were at the beach and some guy left his surf board there while he went to go get some lunch so I started giving Joshua some surfing lessons and I tell you what he picks up on things amazingly fast. He is our little surfing dude.

So these pictures a somewhat old but I figured we would throw them on the blog anyway. While we were in Indian we decided we wanted to see lake michigan from illinois, indiana and michigan. The first 3 pictures are us at New Buffalo Beach in New Buffalo, MI. Then we move to the 12th street beach in Chicago, IL. Then the rest of the pictures are us at Washington beach in Michigan City, IN. Josh is obviously the center point in most of the pictures.

Me and the boy were out visiting Grandma and Grandpa Atwood and we decided to go out and check the Raspberry patch with grandpa.

They had quite a few berries and after giving Whistler some to try he decided that he needed to check out where they were coming from.

Well once he knew where to get them he went on an eating rampage and was all over eating raspberries. He refused to leave until he had his fill.

He really likes raspberries just like his mommy!

Rachels Graduation

Rachel was able to walk and get her diploma on the 12th of April this year. It was a really neat experience because the main speaker for the graduation was the newest member of the twelve apostles Elder Neil L. Anderson. Not only did he speak at the graduation but Rachel also got to shake his hand as she recived her diploma. All that Rachel has left to do is an internship which she will be doing this summer.

Rachels brother Seth also graduated with her on the same day which made it a really fun family thing.

We are a happy little family now that we both have our degrees.

Fishing in Mackey

We took off on thursday and went over to Mackey to do some fishing. The fishing wasn't the best but it was such a beautiful day. The mountians around and the sun shining was just amazing. I spent at least half my time looking at the senery while fishing. There were also geese honking all around and swans swimming about. Everything around was so relaxing. We did catch a few fish. I caught 8 and my dad caught 10 and Boone was somewhere around there too. All in all it was a nice relaxing day of fishing.

This is one of the fish I caught. Sadly enough there were more that were bigger I just didn't take a picture of them. By the time we were leaving and I got my camera out this is the only fish I could get a picture of.

This here is one of the fish that father caught. Once again he had some that were quite a bit bigger. I just happen to take a picture of one of the smallest.

Trip to Walla Walla!

We took a trip up to Walla Walla to spend the three day valentines weekend with the bagleys. On valentines day we went to Lehman hot Springs in oregon, about an hour and a half drive from walla walla, and spent the entire day soaking in the hot pools. It was so much fun because it was snowing a good portion of the time we were there. Even little whistler enjoyed the day getting to splash around and play in the water.

Here is a good look at the pool and all of the Bagley family. The real fun thing was that all of the bagley siblings were there along with thier kids.

Since the entire family was there for the weekend, we wanted to get a family picture. We were not able to get every one in them though because Seth and Carly were not able to make the sunday dinner because Carly was not feeling well. We still got a couple of good pictures. This one is suppose to be a goofy picture.

Ice Fishing!

This is our little trip out to arco to go ice fishing with grandma and grandpa atwood. We headed up to mackey in hopes of catching some kokanee salmon but just caught some trout which were turn back. We did have a real fun time as a family hanging out on a beautiful sunny day enjoying the outside air and wonderful senery.

Whistler got to do a little fishing with grandma. Didn't have a whole lot of success but they sure did have fun sitting there and more or less playing with the fishing pole.

Grandpa was more serious about fishing than just sitting aound playing on the ice.

When we were getting ready to go Rachel and Whistler went and sat in the pick-up while the rest of us packed up the gear. While they were sitting there a few pictures were taken and they turned out really cute. Here is a good shot of his two little teeth.

He was just a happy little boy to get to go fishing for the first time.

He was on the bed right after a hair cut and was being so cute and so fun that we had to take some pictures. Blake was making him laugh so hard so I tried out my photography skills and snapped some photos.

Blakes Graduation

We were happy to celebrate Blakes graduation on the 12th of december. He is also happy to be done with school for now. He is looking for a job and applying to graduate schools.

JCPenny Pictures

I wasn't there but rachel took off to Idaho falls to get pictures of Whistler at JCPenny when I was up in Moscow without my consent. I was up at the University of Idaho checking out thier graduate program so rachel went with her cousin Erica all sneeky like to get pictures done. I don't think JCPenny is really any better at taking pictures than we are with our camera but he is a good looking little bugger in these pictures.

Little Duffer Hat

We bought Whistler a little duffer hat for the trip to florida but he was still too small for it seeing how it was a 3 to 6 month size hat, but now he is about big enough for it. He is our little duffer.

Meadow Lake

This was a trip that me, rach and whistler went on with my parents and brodie and his two daughters. We took the regular boat, a canoe and a pontoon boat and just went to relax and fish. Here little whistler was hanging out in the boat with grandpa while he was fishing. I think whilstler likes fishing.

Here mommy and whistler watch dad while he fishes. It was such a beautiful and relaxing evening up at meadow lake.

Me and Rachel head out on the lake in the canoe. We attemted to fish but we were fairly unsuccessful at first. I ended up catching like 6 before the night was over.

We spent some of our time on our last vacation on the beach. This was golden gardens in Seattle. The water was cold here compared to florida.

We had to find out how much he weighed and it looks like he is around 9 or so pounds (give or take due to an older scale).

Trip to Florida!

This is our trip to florida. Here we were just hanging out on the beach. This beach is I believe Dania beach. We did get a little burnt but all in all we enjoyed our swimming time. This was rachels first time ever swimming in the ocean and experiencing waves. The water was like 85 Degrees the entire time we were there.
